All children should meet certain milestones within a similar age in the areas of language, social, play, movement, and learning. When children do not reach these milestones or reach them consistently later than expected, this can be an indication of developmental delay. Check out the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) checklist for developmental milestones and their tracking app!

Given there are no biological markers or genetic testing to diagnose Autism, it requires a professional with extensive experience in assessments to identify the best diagnostic tools to use based on the referral information, age, differential diagnoses and gender. There is no one test that can provide an accurate diagnosis, but the diagnostic assessment should include a battery of assessments, detailed history, interview, multiple observations/reports across environments, and more to make the most accurate diagnosis

Parents and caregivers have the ability to truly bring their child’s progress to another level with their committed involvement. Research consistently shows that “parental involvement is the one invariable factor and an integral part of the success of early intervention programs for children with autism” (Ozonoff & Cathcart, 1998). Without parent involvement and consistency across environments, treatment progresses can be easily “undone” or progres can be slowed.

Some children with delayed language may communicate in other ways to get their needs met such as, leading others, using another person’s hand, challenging behavior (screaming, crying, tantrums), repeating what they heard earlier (i.e., echolalia), and more.

Research shows if therapy starts early, outcomes are significantly improved over the lifetime as the first 5 years of life are critical for neurological development. During this time the brain is developing at high speed, making it easier to learn.
Typically psychologists, psychiatrists, and medical doctors can diagnose Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and other neurodiverse conditions. However, a more comprehensive diagnostic evaluation would include a multidisciplinary team (e.g., speech and language pathologist, psychologist, occupational therapist, etc) with a battery of assessments.

The length of ABA therapy can vary greatly based on your child’s individual needs and progress. At our center, we take an adaptable, personalized approach to ensure your child receives the right support for as long as they need it—whether that’s months or years.

After a free consultation with our experienced Clinical Supervisor, we will provide initial recommendations for therapy hours tailored to your child’s specific goals and needs, as well as adapt the program based on your needs as a family (e.g., financial barriers, reduced hours, schedule needs, parent or caregiver training). We’ll work closely with you to monitor your child’s development and seamlessly adjust the therapy plan as their goals and learning style evolve. Our top priority is empowering your child to thrive and giving you the tools to continue to teach your child, no matter the duration of treatment.

As a parent or caregiver, you play a vital role in supporting your child’s progress during therapy. Here are some empowering ways you can get involved:

  • Practice the skills at home: Our therapists will provide you with personalized strategies and activities to reinforce what your child is learning in their sessions. Incorporating these into your daily routine helps solidify new abilities.
  • Communicate openly with the team: Share insights about your child’s strengths, challenges, and interests. Additionally, share information regarding the school, medication, health, family dynamics, and plans to pause or discontinue services. This ongoing collaboration allows us to fine-tune the therapy approach and make it as meaningful as possible.
  • Attend parent training workshops: We’ll equip you with behavior management techniques, communication methods, and other tools to continue fostering your child’s growth outside of therapy.
  • Celebrate small wins: Point out and praise every instance of your child using their new skills. This positive reinforcement goes a long way in building their confidence.

The key is maintaining an open, judgment-free partnership. We’re here to support both you and your child throughout this journey. With your involvement, we can unlock your child’s full potential.

Language Development Activities

  • Read books together: Have your point or label pictures, guess what will happen next, retell the story in their own words and ask open-ended questions to encourage longer responses.
  • Narrate daily activities: Describe what you’re doing and encourage your child to describe what they see, feel, and do to build their vocabulary.
  • Sing songs and nursery rhymes: Pause for your child to fill in the missing words.
  • Play “what’s different?” games: Describe changes you make to familiar objects or routines.
  • Use visual aids: Practice naming objects, actions, and emotions with picture cards.

Social Development Activities

  • Set up playdates: Guide interactive games like Simon Says or I Spy with other children.
  • Role-play social scenarios: Model how to make requests, share toys, or express feelings.
  • Outings: Visit places like the park, library, or store to practice greetings and conversations with new people.
  • Teach social cues: Help your child recognize and respond to social cues like eye contact, tone of voice, and body language.
  • Encourage conversations: Support your child in initiating and maintaining back-and-forth conversations, even if their responses are nonverbal at first.

The key is to make these activities fun and engaging. Celebrate your child’s progress, however small, and know that with patience and consistency, you’ll see amazing developments in their communication and social skills.

The process for ending therapy is flexible. Parents can choose to discontinue the services at any point. We would appreciate it if you could inform us ahead of time so we can better support the transition. We aim to empower your family throughout the entire process, including when you decide therapy is no longer needed.

We do not have a psychologist on staff and do not provide diagnostic assessments. However, we can provide contact information for diagnostic providers we collaborate with for evaluations.

While we do not provide formal diagnostic reports, we do conduct comprehensive criterion based and behavioral assessments to evaluate current skill levels and areas for improvement. Based on these assessments, we can provide detailed reports outlining the findings and recommended interventions.

A key focus of our programs are to ensure the skills your child develops can be applied across different settings and situations, not just within therapy sessions. We achieve this through several strategies:

  • Varied Practice: During sessions, we expose your child to the target skills in diverse contexts, with different people, and through various activities. This helps them learn to generalize the skills more flexibly.
  • Parent/Caregiver Training: We equip you with the techniques to reinforce and practice the skills at home and in the community. Your involvement is crucial for generalizing progress.
  • Fading Supports: As your child masters a skill, we gradually reduce prompts and supports to encourage independent use of the skill across environments.
  • Collaborative Coordination: We communicate closely with your child’s other providers, such as teachers, to align on strategies and track skill generalization.

Our goal is for the abilities your child gains in therapy to seamlessly transfer to their everyday life. With our collaborative, data-driven approach, we’re confident your child will be able to generalize their skills for long-term success.

We collaborate with any schools willing to work with us. Let us know if you have specific schools in mind.

ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) has been shown to be highly effective for many individuals, particularly those with autism and other developmental disorders. However, its effectiveness can vary based on several factors, including the individual’s specific needs, the intensity and quality of the therapy, and the involvement of caregivers.

While many individuals make significant progress with ABA, it is important to understand that no single therapy is universally effective for everyone. Each individual is unique, and their response to therapy can differ. That’s why we emphasize a personalized approach, tailoring our ABA programs to meet the specific goals and needs of each child.

If you have concerns about whether ABA is the right fit for your child, we recommend starting with a consultation to discuss your child’s needs and explore the most appropriate therapeutic options. Our goal is to provide the best possible support to help your child thrive.

With continuous collaboration between our team and your family, you may begin to notice positive changes in your child relatively early on.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that every child is different in their response to therapy. The timeline for progress can vary considerably based on the individual’s unique needs, development, and responsiveness to the interventions.

Yes, in addition to directly involving parents in the therapy sessions, we also provide comprehensive parent support services as part of our program. This includes:

  • Parent training on topics like developmental milestones, supporting speech and language development, behavior management, teaching daily living skills, social skills, and more!
  • Regular one-on-one meetings with a designated parent coach to discuss challenges, develop coping strategies, and develop plans to improve performance.
  • Connections to local parent support groups and community resources
  • Guidance on effective communication with the child’s school and other providers
  • Assistance with coordinating the child’s overall care plan and accessing additional services as needed

The goal is to empower parents with the knowledge, skills, and community support necessary to be effective partners in their child’s development. We recognize the unique stresses and demands that come with caring for a child with special needs.

Deciding on the best therapy approach for your child is a deeply personal choice. The caring team at our center will take the time to understand your child’s individual needs and learning style. We’ll work collaboratively with you to create a customized treatment plan that aligns with your family’s goals and values. ABA has been shown to be highly effective for many neurodiverse individuals, helping them build crucial skills while also affirming their neurodiversity. We encourage you to reach out and learn more about how our ABA services can uplift and empower your child.

We utilize a combination of individual therapy sessions and small group instruction, as research shows both modalities can be highly beneficial for children with developmental and behavioral needs. The specific approach is tailored to each child’s unique learning style and therapy goals.

Our clinical team is composed of highly qualified and experienced professionals, including Board Certified Behavior Analysts, and licensed speech and language therapists, and physiotherapist. They undergo continuing education to stay up-to-date on the latest evidence-based practices in their field of expertise. We do this with our weekly staff trainings “Think & Sip,” regular case reviews, and training days.

Yes, we have experience working with children across a wide range of developmental, behavioral, and mental health needs – including autism, ADHD, anxiety, learning disabilities, Down Syndrome, OCD, and more. Our team tailors the interventions to meet the unique profile of each child and works with the individuals therapy and healthcare team.

Collaboration with your child’s school is essential for ensuring consistent support across all environments. We work closely with educators to align goals, support the development of individual education plans (IEP), share progress updates, and provide training on implementing strategies within the classroom setting. We can also provide oversight and training to privately hired school coaches (i.e., school shadow) to ensure integrity and progress.
